Griz is one of the snowiest villages in Azerbaijan. The Griz people speak their own unique language and are considered one of the most ancient ethnic groups in Azerbaijan.

This hike is quite demanding and therefore requires caution and experience. The trails are clearly visible everywhere and are fully marked. Follow the signs, enter the forest on the trail and after 1.5km you will come to an open area. After a 2km steep ascent, the path splits in two at a place called “Khan Kek”. The unmarked path to the right reaches a place called “Rooster Rock” and a cascade above the Grizdahna waterfall. Going further is dangerous and not advised. The left path continues to the village of Griz along the steep cliffs of the canyon. After about 6km you will reach Griz village.

Seasonality
It is very important to have suitable hiking clothes as this is a relatively difficult hike. This route is not suitable for those who are afraid of heights as there are several steep ascents along the trail. It is generally not recommended during the snowy winter as it can be dangerous. If you want to enjoy green nature the route is ideal in May-July. It is recommended to check the weather forecast before your trip as foggy, rainy or windy weather can make the trail significantly more difficult.
Food and accommodation
Grizdahna village is visited by tourists and has restaurants and hotels that operate both seasonally and throughout the year. There are also guest houses that offer food and accommodation. There are no restaurants or cafes in Griz village, but there are guest houses that offer food and lodging. Water
You can fill up your water bottles in the yards of local villagers before leaving the village. It is recommended to take 1.5-2 litres of water depending on the temperature. There is only one place where you can drink water along the route, which is a spring located shortly before Griz village.
Transportation
You can get to Grizdahna in an off-road vehicle. From Guba city centre local taxis can take you there for 20-25 AZN. If you intend to return to Guba from Grizdahna on the same day, you can ask the driver to wait and take you back for no extra payment. If you intend to return to Guba from Griz, you can ask the driver to collect you from there and take you back for an extra 40 AZN.
Permissions and Special Protected Areas
No prior permission is required to hike along this route. The trail does not pass through a special protected natural area or border protection zone.
