an icon of sports architecturein Baku
The Baku Olympic Stadium, completed in 2015, stands out even among the many unique examples of modern architecture in Baku. Everything about it is unusual, from the ring-shaped form and the original interior to the retractable roof and the colourful and dynamic lighting in the evening. The enormous complex over 60 metres high – higher than a 20-floor apartment building! – and with an area of 120,000m2 can accommodate almost 70,000 spectators. In 2017 at the World Stadium Congress it won the “best new stadium in the world” award.
Already some very prestigious international sporting events have been held here: the first ever European Games, the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, as well as qualifiers for the UEFA European Football Championship and FIFA World Cup, and Nations League matches. The spectacular stadium is included on UEFA’s list of elite sports venues and this summer will stage four matches of the EURO 2020 European Football Championship.
At the complex you can relax and have a great time, be it doing sport in the fitness centre or martial arts club, dining with friends in the fan-cafe, shopping or strolling in the beautiful park along the shore of Boyukshor lake next to the stadium. Conferences, seminars, concerts, corporate events and even weddings also take place here.
To fully explore this architectural marvel and unique multisport complex you can take a tour, for which there are several options that vary in length and complexit.
